IT Construction Forum (ITCF)

The IT Construction Forum is a special initiative forum within Constructing Excellence. It is a forum for those individuals within construction firms, their supply chain and clients responsible for investing in and driving forward the effective use of IT and new technologies for improved business and management practices.

Aim and Objectives

  • To work with individuals within construction firms and their clients to improve business performance through effective investment and use of IT and new technologies within their management and business practices.
  • To create an independent information source and communication channel between the IT, construction and research communities. More specifically, the ITCF aims to:
  • Help align research and development with the needs of the construction industry.
  • Disseminate research outputs to individuals who are well placed to drive business improvement in their firms.
  • Provide independently-reviewed guidance and information on new technologies and examples of their use, as in real-life case studies.

Mission Statement

“The IT Construction Forum presents a unique opportunity for construction companies to obtain wide-ranging, independent advice and guidance on how to use new technologies to their advantege”.

Key Activities (including outputs produced to date)

  • Dissemination of best practice from a range of sources within the UK and internationally.
  • Providing a communication channel between the construction and IT industries on areas of major concern within the construction industry.
  • Acting as a one-stop information resource for members of the construction industry, drawing on material supplied by the industry, the IT industry partners and by other programmes.
  • Providing networking events, bringing together members of the construction industry and the IT industry.

Programme of work for 07/08

  • Expand the range and scope of programme services engaging with business on local and regional levels.
  • Improve understanding of the needs of the construction industry.
  • Continue to encourage the development of the industry-based demonstration projects that illustrate the benefits of improved use of IT.
  • Continue to work with publishers, event organisers and software developers to produce case studies and dissemination events.

The Business Model

  • Business Operational Model: The ITCF operates as a special interest forum within Constructing Excellence. The Forum has a Director, a Marketing Consultant and a Manager.
  • Funding Mechanisms: Since April 07, the ITCF has no longer a membership, however, the forum is currently funded by the CE.
