The Network for Construction Collaboration Technology Providers (NCCTP)
The NCCTP (Network for Construction Collaboration Technology Providers) formed in December 2003. The network will help to promote the effective use of online technology to support collaborative working on projects and capital developments in UK constructions. It provides a single independent body with whom clients can communicate regarding the future development of collaboration technology.
Aim and Objectives
- To develop and implement an agreed set of data exchange standards between all members to enable bulk transfer of data from any one system to another.
- To develop and implement an agreed set of data exchange standards between all members to enable routine transfer of information between systems for cross project working.
- To establish a group whose membership broadly represents the collaborative technology providers working within the construction industry and provide a vehicle to address generic market and technology issues.
Mission Statement
“The NCCTP seeks to promote the benefits and use of collaborative technology in the construction and related industries ”.
Key Activities (including outputs produced to date)
- NCCTP Standard: driving force for data exchange standards to the outside world to help their marketing, their technology and business. The application will permit the exchange standard to design and permit project information to be exported from one provider and imported into another provider.
- Case studies: Demonstration of case studies to the clients and users to reduce the risk by using collaborative systems to create less waste. Examples include; Microsoft headquarters (4Projects), Bluestone choose Aconex for NHS projects (Aconex), Regeneration of Bracknell Town Centre (Asite), Capital One Financial Corp head office in Nottingham (BIW Technologies), Primark (Business Collaborator), Portman House in Oxford Street (Cadweb), Tube Lines, London- station modernisation (causeway Technologies Ltd), Kingston Communication Stadium (Sarcophagus).
- Seminars and events: series of seminars, events and expert groups are held on a regular basis organised either by the NCCTP or by other organisations where the NCCTP take part in them. These events provide technical background to using the Intranet technology.
- Reducing waste from the construction industry: such as designing a questionnaire that could be downloaded from the NCCTP website by any organisation. These forms could be used for tendering purposes.
Programme of work for 07/08
- Continue to do more work to demonstrate how projects can be designed with less waste and risk.
- More involvement in a number of initiatives to bring more members to the NCCTP worldwide and to involve other industries as well.
- Improve standards.
- Collaborate with other organisation and work jointly to reduce the waste in the construction process.
- Exchange information with other organisations such as a recent potential survey done by a consultant with the NCCTP users to determine the benefits and weaknesses of the collaborative working.
The Business Model
- Business Operational Model: NCCTP members are technology authors actively involved in the UK construction industry. The NCCTP has 9 members and the network is currently hosted by CIRIA. Associate membership allows companies to gain access to the NCCTP network and gain other benefits from the membership
- Funding Mechanisms: self funded by Membership.
